Dorothy Evelyn ?Dot? (Johnson) Schmitka, 79, of Mansfield Avenue, Norton, Massachusetts died on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at the New England Sinai Hospital and Rehabilitation Center in Stoughton after a decline in health following a fall several weeks ago. She was the beloved and cherished wife of Anthony Stephan Schmitka, Sr. to whom she was married on March 13, 1957. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 9, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Robie and Eva (Kidston) Johnson. She resided in Norton for the past 17 years. Mrs. Schmitka was a dedicated homemaker who devoted herself to her husband and raising her children. In later years, she was the much loved and adored grandmother of three generations of grandchildren. She and her husband enjoyed taking long car trips to places like Las Vegas, Nevada and to visit relatives in Florida. An avid crocheter, she enjoyed making blankets for her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Schmitka enjoyed times spent playing bingo and cooking. In addition to her husband, she leaves five children: Donna L. Stanley of Attleboro; Evelyn ?Joy? Locke of Mansfield; Toni Darlene Mastrianni of Palm Harbor, Florida; Michelle Schmitka of Mansfield and Anthony S. Schmitka, Jr. of Mansfield; 24 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; a sister: Ruth Johnston of Haverhill and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Peter Johnson, Ronald Johnson, Elizabeth Lynch, Ollie Williamson and Gretchen ?Peanut? Whitmire. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to a celebration of ?Dot?s? life by attending a visitation gathering on Saturday, July 2, 2005 anytime between the hours of 3:00 and 5:00 PM in the ?Commonwealth Chapel? of DYER-LAKE FUNERAL HOME, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.
