Dorothy Mae Lavalley

April 24, 1935 — August 14, 2012

Dorothy Mae (Knecht) LaValley, 77, formerly of Broad Street, North Attleboro, died peacefully with her daughters' holding her hand on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at the Eleanor Slater Hospital in Cranston, Rhode Island where she had been a patient for the past ten years. Born in Dedham, Massachusetts on April 24, 1935, she was a daughter of the late George and Gertrude (Ryan) Knecht. She was raised and educated in Dedham and had lived in North Attleboro for almost 30 years until the onset of her illness. Mrs. LaValley was employed as an assembler for Gaudette Leather in North Attleboro for 13 years prior to her retirement in 1997. While residing in North Attleboro, Mrs. LaValley was a communicant of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. She had also served as the recreational director for Whippoorwill Hill Family Campground in Foster, Rhode Island for 15 years. As a member and former treasurer of "The Bug Club" in Central Falls, Rhode Island, Mrs. LaValley and the organization raised funds for the Meeting Street School. Her favorite pastimes included playing bingo and creating arts and crafts. She leaves her two devoted daughters: Dorothy M. "Dot" Buttlar of East Providence, RI and Jean M. Bator of Pawtucket, RI; four cherished grandchildren: Amanda Bator of Pawtucket, RI; Michael Buttlar and Matthew Buttlar both of North Attleboro and Lyndsey Buttlar of Pawtucket, RI; seven great-grandchildren; a dedicated brother: Charles Knecht of Roslindale and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was the mother of the late George Buttlar who died on April 22, 2008 and was the sister of the late George Knecht and Gertrude Pacheco. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Friday, August 17, 2012 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. For those in need of a local ride to visitation simply call the funeral home directly at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis transportation. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 9:00 AM in the "Memorial Chapel" of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. Victor Chaupetta, M.S. of the National Shrine of Our Lady of LaSallette, Park Street, Attleboro, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Towne Street, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Children's room available during visitation and the funeral service.
