Dorothy Evelyn (Moore) Howland, 83, of Madeline Street, East Wareham, died on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. She was the wife of Wilfred M. Howland, Jr. to whom she was married on March 29, 1980. Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on June 28, 1927 she was the daughter of the late Frederick W. S. and Gladys M. (Peck) Moore. She was raised and educated in her native community of Attleboro and was a 1945 graduate of Attleboro High School. She resided in Attleboro until moving to East Wareham 30 years ago. Mrs. Howland was employed as a secretary for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts having been a secretary at the Paul Dever School in Taunton for many years prior to her retirement. Previously, Mrs. Howland was employed for various jewelry manufacturers in the Attleboro area as a secretary. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church in both Attleboro and Onset and served her church family in Attleboro as a member of the choir. She enjoyed the time spent playing card games, in particular gin rummy and was a crossword puzzle enthusiast. A lifelong animal lover, she treasured the time spent feeding and watching the birds around her property, but most of all treasured the time spent with her family and church family. In addition to her husband of 30 years, she leaves two children: Debra E. Fobert and her husband, Vincent F. Fobert, of North Attleboro and Allen Robert Crane and his wife, Susan R. (Reynolds) Crane, of Attleboro; three grandchildren: David V. Fobert and his wife, Julie (Vagnoni) Fobert, of Weymouth; Valerie J. Whittenberger of Attleboro Falls and Charles F. Crane of Attleboro; two great grandchildren: Ella R. Whittenberger of Attleboro Falls and Dominic D. Fobert of Weymouth; two sisters: Elizabeth Fontneau of Attleboro and Barbara Kelly and her husband, Joseph Kelly, of Onset; a brother: William Moore of Attleboro and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. She was the mother of the late David Allen Crane.Mrs. Howland was predeceased by the father of her children, Albert P. Crane and was the sister of the late Frederick Moore and Grace Pickett. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Friday, January 28, 2011 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Following church services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments in the church. Private burial will follow in North Purchase Cemetery, Attleboro. Please do not send flowers.
