Dorothy I. Embree

Dorothy I. "Dot" (Gardner) Embree, 68, went home to be with the Lord, on Monday, July 22, 2013, at her residence surrounded by the love of family and friends. She was the wife of Stanley V. Embree, Jr. to whom she was married on September 12, 1970. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on December 13, 1944, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur Leroy and Betty Jane (Goff) Gardner. She was 1962 graduate of Walpole High School and attended Dean College and the University of Maryland. Several years ago she was employed at the Goodyear Tire Center in Norwood. Most notably, Mrs. Embree devoted her life to those less fortunate and always put the needs of others above her own. She served the community as the Executive Director of the Attleboro Area Council of Churches from 1999 until her retirement in 2009. During this tenure she aided hundreds of local residents through her efforts. She received the Athena Award from the Attleboro Chamber of Commerce for her outstanding work. A resident of North Attleboro for ten years; Mrs. Embree previously resided in Attleboro and Walpole. Mrs. Embree was a member of the D.A.V. Women's Auxiliary and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. She did a lot of charitable work in collaboration with the St. Vincent de Paul Society in the Greater Attleboro area. As a long time member of Central Congregational Church in the Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, Mrs. Embree served her church family as a member of the Women's Union, the Board of Trustees, the Mission Committee, Christian Education Committee, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, and as Youth Advisor. In addition to her husband she leaves two children: Larry L. Embree and his wife, Sheila Embree, of Hopedale and Kimberly J. Embree of Plainville; Five grandchildren: Christopher L. Embree of Hopedale and Ashley L. Hession of Plainville and Melissa, Michael and Stephen; two great-grandchildren: Ryan and Hannah; a sister: Brenda S. Levya-Gardner, PhD. and her husband, Kevin Levya-Gardner, of Cincinnati, Ohio; her longtime dear friend: Reverend Carole Baker of North Attleboro; extended family members and countless friends. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 5-8PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Children's room available during visitation and during the funeral service. Those in need of a ride to visitation may call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis transportation. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the funeral service on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, funeral home mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with her cousin, Dr. John Frye, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mrs. Embree's name may be made to Central Congregational Church Memorial Gifts Fund, PO Box 1319, Attleboro Falls, MA 02763 or the Attleboro Area Council of Churches, 95 Pine Street, Attleboro, MA 02703. Burial will be private at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
