Dorothy G. (O'Brien) Allen, 94, of Attleboro, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI. She was the beloved wife of the late Ralph G. Allen who passed away on February 17, 1983. Born on March 19, 1924 in Taunton, MA, she was the daughter of the late Stephen M. and Susan M. (Chafe) O'Brien.A lifelong resident of Attleboro, she was a graduate of Attleboro High School, Class of 1942. Dorothy worked for many years as a Traffic Supervisor and Instructor (Telephone Operator) for the former New England Telephone Company, before retiring.A woman of great faith, she had an infectious positive spirit and love of life. She was a member of St. Mark's Church and its Women's Auxiliary, and attended St. John the Evangelist Church. Dorothy was an ardent golfer and a longtime member of the former Highland Country Club. She graciously volunteered her time as a member of the Sturdy Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, enjoyed playing BINGO at Christopher Heights, listening to Big Band music, and loved everything Irish. More than anything in life, she loved and cherished her family.Dorothy was the loving mother of Laurie J. Kay and her husband, James "Jay" H. Kay, of Mattapoisett, MA. She was the proud and adoring grandmother of Kelly J. Kay and Colin A. Kay. She was the sister of the late Raymond O'Brien, Rita Donahue, and Stephen O'Brien. Dorothy leaves many nieces and nephews, and friends of many years, to all of whom she was devoted. Friends and family are cordially invited to honor and remember Dorothy by gathering for a Memorial Visitation on Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA, immediately followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. at Dyer-Lake Funeral Home.Private Graveside Services will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Attleboro, at which time Dorothy will be laid to rest alongside her dear late husband, Ralph.
