Doris Elisabeth Lykus

Doris Elisabeth Lykus, 86, of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Genesis Healthcare-Milford Center in Milford, Massachusetts. She was the beloved and loving wife of the late Stanley Henry Lykus, former North Attleboro Police Chief, to whom she was married in September 1948 and who predeceased her in December 1970. Born in Attleboro on November 9, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Frank A. Berglund and Agnes (Carlson) Berglund. Doris was a graduate of North Attleboro High School, Class of 1944. After graduation, she worked at the Community Theatre and as a part-time bookkeeper at W.H. Riley & Son in North Attleboro, from where she retired in 1950. Doris also earned her LPN nursing certificate. She was a proud resident of North Attleboro her entire adult life. She was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in North Attleboro, and attended St. Mark's Church in Attleboro Falls. Doris enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, sewing, and her many pets. She loved taking yearly vacations throughout New England and chocolate of all kinds, and took great pride in her Swedish heritage. In addition to her cherished late husband and parents, Doris was the dear and loving mother of five children: Joyce Ann Lykus who passed away in April 1981, Edward S. Lykus of Norfolk, Paul J. Lykus and his wife Nancy (Gibbons) Lykus of Hanson, Dianne E. Langlois and her husband Ron E. Langlois of Harwich, and Roberta J. Lovejoy and her husband Thomas E. Lovejoy of North Attleboro; eight grandchildren, one great-grandson, her brother Carl F. Berglund of Waltham, two nieces and one nephew, as well as extended family members and dear friends. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the funeral service on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 8:30 AM from the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 14 Park Street, North Attleboro, with the Rev. David A. Costa, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in North Attleboro.
