Doris M. (Barrowman) Cobb, 81, of Attleboro, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, September 18, 2011 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of Robert L. Cobb, to whom she would have celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary on December 15th. Mrs. Cobb was born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on May 28, 1930, the daughter of the late Arthur H. and Doris M. (Bliven) Barrowman and was the stepdaughter of the late May (Ernst) Barrowman. She remained a lifelong resident of the City of Attleboro. During her working years, she initially worked for Dr. Allen, a well-known local dentist, in Attleboro as a dental assistant for many years and later in the ordering department for the former L. G. Balfour Company in Attleboro. Lastly, Mrs. Cobb worked for the family business, A. H. B., Inc. in Attleboro as a bookkeeper until her retirement and devoting herself to her family. Finding great strength and peace in her relationship with God, Doris regularly attended Sunday school, church worship services and prayer meetings. Originally a member of Second Congregational Church in Attleboro she later attended Assembly of God in South Attleboro and more recently Assembly of God in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. She was a direct descendent of Roger Williams. For many years she was a volunteer library aid at Dayspring Academy where her grandchildren attended. She enjoyed spending time with her family and she shared her skills of braiding rugs, knitting sewing and baking with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading and traveling. In addition to her husband of nearly sixty years, she leaves two sons: William L. Cobb and his wife, Jean (Cameron) Cobb of Pawtucket, Rhode Island and Peter H. Cobb and his wife, Bridgette (Cotter) of North Attleboro; a daughter: Cynthia M. (Cobb) Hill and her husband, Robert W. Hill of South Attleboro; a sister: Clara B. Goldberg of Daly City, California; a brother: Arthur V. Barrowman in California; four grandchildren: Stephen Cobb, Deborah Hill, Susan Hill, and Elizabeth Hill and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Friday, September 23, 2011 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Childrens room is available during the visitation. Those in need of a ride to visitation may call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis transportation. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at a later date at a place to be announced. Private burial will be in Oak Knoll Cemetery, Rehoboth. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mrs. Cobbs name may be made to the Community Visiting Nurse Agency, 10 Emory Street, Attleboro, MA 02703.
