Doris Therese Bourgeois, 83, of Mansfield Avenue, Norton, died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the Epoch Senior Healthcare of Norton where she had been a resident for almost two years. Born in Plainville, Massachusetts on November 28, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Herve and Julie (LeBlanc) Bourgeois. She graduated from St. Charles High School in Providence, Rhode Island and after earning her undergraduate degree she received her Masters in Education from Lesley College. Miss Bourgeois was a former member of the Religious of Jesus and Mary order and as a nun was an educator in the Fall River area. After leaving the order, Miss Bourgeois was employed in public education and was employed by the Town of North Attleboro as a third grade school teacher at the Martin School for more than 25 years prior to her retirement in 1994. A resident of Norton for almost two years, Miss Bourgeois was previously a resident of Taunton, Mashpee and Sandwich. She was a communicant of Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church in East Sandwich. She had a lifelong love for animals, enjoyed the literary works of Beatrix Potter and enjoyed poetry and singing. Miss Bourgeois enjoyed studying famous artists and had an appreciation of fine arts. As a lifelong teacher, she instilled all of her appreciations for poetry and the fine arts into her students. She leaves three sisters: Therese Rousseau, Florence Burke and Alma Kennedy all of Ocala, Florida and many nieces and nephews. She was the beloved sister of the late Eva Saulnier, Anthony Bourgeois, Henry Bourgeois, Stella Bourgeois, Joseph Bourgeois and Ernest Bourgeois. Funeral services and burial will be private. Burial will be in St. Peters Cemetery, Sandwich. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dyer-Lake Charitable Foundation, Inc., a registered 501 (c) 3 organization, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, North Attleboro, MA 02760 to benefit the North Attleboro Animal Shelter.
