Diane Doris (Languirand) Halko, 58, of Newport Avenue, South Attleboro, died on Friday, August 23, 2013 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island surrounded by her loving family following a period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of Leonard A. Halko to whom she was married on September 12, 1980. Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island on April 29, 1955, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Doris (Chamberland) Languirand. She was raised and educated in neighboring Bellingham and later attended Arthur Angelo's School of Beauty. She devoted herself tirelessly to her family as a homemaker. A resident of South Attleboro for the past 33 years, Mrs. Halko previously resided in Bellingham. A longtime member of Bethany Village Fellowship in South Attleboro, Mrs. Halko was a spiritual and religious woman who gave much to her church. She served in various capacities in the church's youth ministry programs, was a volunteer for the annual summer vacation Bible school program, served as an Elder and Deacon and was a Sunday school teacher. Giving back to her community was a family mantra and Mrs. Halko was no exception, was actively involved in food pantries to feed the hungry, was a longtime member and volunteer for the South Attleboro Lions Club and in the scouting program served as a Cub Scout Leader for Pack 24 at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church and with Pack 1 at Bethany Village Fellowship, served as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 35 at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church and Troop 1 at Bethany Village Fellowship and also served as a leader of the "Daisy" organization, a precursor to the Brownie organization, at Bethany Village Fellowship. She will be remembered for her love for reading, ability to quilt and her skills at decorative and canvas painting. In addition to her husband, she leaves a son: Nicholas W. Halko and his wife, Lisa J. (Guerrero) Halko of Plainville; three siblings: Eugene Languirand of Woonsocket, Rhode Island; Richard Languirand of Blackstone and Thomas Languirand of Venice, Florida, several nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. Private visitation and private funeral services will be held on Friday, August 30, 2013 in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. The Rev. Daniel Dore, Pastor of Bethany Village Fellowship will officiate. Burial will follow in Newell Burying Ground, West Street, Attleboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mrs. Halko's name may be made to the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund, Inc., C/O Mr. William Murphy, Treasurer, PO Box 36050, New Bedford, MA 02742.
