Diana Lois (Farretta) Hughes, 69, of Atlantic Road, North Attleboro, died on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the Genesis Healthcare in Milford surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Patrick "Packy" Hughes who died on December 21, 1968. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 7, 1944, she was a daughter of the late Patrick and Josephine (D'Alloia) Farretta. Raised and educated in Roslindale, Mrs. Hughes was a 1962 graduate of Roslindale High School. Mrs. Hughes was a resident of North Attleboro since 1990 having previously resided in Wrentham from 1975 - 1990. She was a woman of strong faith and religious convictions, while residing in Wrentham she was a communicant of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church and in North Attleboro attended St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church. Her perspectives and beliefs allowed her to volunteer countless hours as part of the Pro-Life Movement. Mrs. Hughes was dedicated to her children whom she raised with the love and the assistance of her family following the unexpected death of her husband. For several years, Mrs. Hughes was employed as a customer service representative for the Home Depot in Mansfield prior to her retirement. She will be lovingly remembered for creating lifelong memories with her family to cherish and for her independence, determination and perseverance. Her Italian heritage allowed her great baking abilities and she enjoyed baking for family and friends and at one time taught cake decorating at the Wrentham Continuing Education program. Mrs. Hughes was very proud of her accomplishment in having the "Annie Oakley Award" for skeet shooting bestowed upon her. She leaves two children: Lt. Col. Patrick Hughes, USAF Retired and his wife, Dawn E. (Nordin) Hughes, of Ashburn, Virginia and Kelly A. Myers, whom was selflessly devoted to her and with whom she resided, of North Attleboro; eight grandchildren: Griffin, Cullen, Delaney and Kennedy Myers all of North Attleboro and Hailey, Callie, Sadie and Jonah Hughes all of Ashburn, Virginia; her surviving siblings of the original thirteen: Lucy Rozanski of Walpole; Marie DelloRusso of Hyde Park and William and Richard Farretta both in Arizona and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation in celebration of her life on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 9:00 AM St. Marks' Roman Catholic Church, the Rev. Thomas A. Frechette, Pastor, officiating. There will be no funeral cortege from the funeral home prior to the funeral Mass. Burial will be private in Mount Benedict Cemetery, Boston.
