Devasis "Dave" Chatterjee, Ph.D.

Devasis "Dave" Chatterjee, 66, of Mansfield, MA, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA, after a period of declining health.
Born on October 13, 1955, in Kolkata, India, the son on the late Dr. Suprabhat Chatterjee and the late Bani Chatterjee, Dave immigrated with his family to the United Sates in February 1958, settling in the Brighton area of Boston.
Dave attended Boston English High School, Class of 1974, and went on to attend the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. At UMass-Amherst, he earned his MS, BS, 1980 in the Department of Zoology and Biochemistry. He commenced a career as a lifelong researcher and scientist. Like his father, Dave continued with research and went on to earn Ph.D. from Brown University in Providence, RI, in the Division of Biology and Medicine Program in Biochemical Pharmacology, 1990.
Dave was employed as a Senior Research Scientist at Rhode Island Hospital and Principal Investigator in the Department of Hematology and Oncology at Brown University. He mentored many undergraduate and graduate students at Brown University.
A kind and generous man, he was very involved with the Ronald McDonald House Charities. He was an annual organizer for the nonprofit organization's golf tournaments to help the Children's Hospital in Boston. Within the community, Dave was an active member of the Mansfield Youth Basketball Association, helping to coach his son Devin and other teams in the association. In his youth, he was on the hockey and crew teams at English High School. His passion for sports continued as an avid follower of the professional Boston teams.
Dave leaves his beloved wife, Cynthia Chatterjee; his loving son, Devin Chatterjee; and his dear brother, Sudipta Chatterjee. He was the loving uncle of Saurav and Tia, and the great-uncle of Kelsey, Connor, Ava and Eli.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Memorial Gathering on Thursday, November 18, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA. At the family's request, everyone in attendance must wear a face mask and practice social distancing regardless of vaccination status.
