Deputy Sheriff Ryan Tvelia, 42 Norfolk County Sheriff's Officer Killed in Motorcycle Accident Deputy Sheriff Ryan Tvelia, 42, of Millbrook Drive, Plainville, died on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Caritas Norwood Hospital as a result of injuries sustained that morning in a motorcycle-vehicle accident on I-95 northbound near Exit 9 in Sharon near the Walpole border. Mr. Tvelia was on his way to serve as an honor guard at the funeral of another officer's mother. He was the husband of Diana Lynn (Matus) Tvelia to whom he was married on May 15, 2004. Born in Blue Point, New York on October 19, 1969, he was a son of George Peter Tvelia II and Nancy E. (Stevens) Tvelia both of Blue Point, New York. Raised and educated in Blue Point, Mr. Tvelia was a 1989 graduate of Bayport-Blue Point High School. He was a member of the Norfolk County Sheriff's Office for 11 years. Most recently, Deputy Sheriff Tvelia was working at the Dedham County Jail. Mr. Tvelia resided in Plainville since 2001 having moved to Massachusetts from his native New York. He will be lovingly remembered for his sense of humor. Favorite pastimes included performing yard work around his property, playing golf and riding on his Harley Davidson and in his Chevrolet Corvette. In addition to his wife of almost 8 years and his parents, he leaves three children: Brittany A. Tvelia of Blackstone; Ryan M. Tvelia of Plainville and Joshua B. Tvelia of Plainville; a brother: Sean Tvelia of Ridge, New York; his paternal grandfather: George P. Tvelia of Blue Point, New York; his mother-in-law: Rosemarie Matus of Holbrook, New York and several extended family members including aunts, uncles, cousins and members of the Matus family and countless friends and colleagues. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with Law Enforcement Honors on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 from 3:00 - 8:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Fellow law enforcement officers will conduct a ritual "walk through" during visitation at 5:00 PM. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Park Street, North Attleboro with Rev. David A. Costa, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be private. Following church services Law Enforcement Honors will take place on the plaza in front of the church. There will be no funeral cortege from the funeral home prior to the commencement of the funeral Mass. Please do not send flowers at the family's expressed desire.
