David Edwin Whitehead, 68, of Attleboro, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI. He was the beloved husband of Diane C. (Duclos) Whitehead, to whom he was married on June 24, 1972.Born on October 3, 1947 in Cranston, RI, he was the son of the late Edwin Whitehead and the late Ethel (Tainsch) Whitehead.He was a graduate of Dighton Rehoboth Regional High School, Class of 1965, and was employed for more than thirty-seven years as a Machine Operator for ThyssenKrupp Steel in Smithfield, RI. A resident of Attleboro since 1998, he previously lived in Pawtucket, RI.David proudly and honorably served our country from 1967 until 1971 as a Staff Sargeant in the United States Air Force, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award Medal.David was a family man who truly enjoyed spending time with his wife, daughters, and his two canine companions: "Lucy" and "Cooper". He liked sports of all kinds, NASCAR, and travel: to Aruba, Europe, and especially Hawaii.In addition to his wife, he is survived by his cherished daughters: Kristen A. Whitehead of Pawtucket, RI, and Casey A. Whitehead of Attleboro, MA. He was the adoring grandfather of Nathan R. Whitehead and Isla R. Whitehead. David was the brother of Linda (Whitehead) Sawyer of Ocala, FL, Donna (Whitehead) Maher of Taunton, MA; and Dennis Whitehead of Texas.
