David M. Sumner, 87, of Attleboro, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026.

Born to John and Lillian (Auty) Sumner, David lived a life filled with curiosity, adventure, and a genuine appreciation for the people and experiences that brought him joy.

David was the beloved husband of the late Robert daRosa, with whom he shared 12 wonderful years of love and companionship.

David embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He found joy behind the wheel of his cherished 1951 MG, behind the lens of a camera capturing life's special moments, on the ski slopes, in the kitchen creating new recipes, and on hiking trails where he appreciated the beauty and peace of nature. More than anything, David treasured time spent with those he loved and never missed an opportunity to share laughter, stories, and good company.

David devoted 38 years to teaching Mechanical Drawing and AutoCAD at King Philip Regional High School. More than teaching technical skills, he inspired and encouraged generations of students with his patience, kindness, and genuine care. Over the years, many former students shared how profoundly he influenced their lives, crediting him with shaping not only their education but also their confidence and future paths. His dedication to his students extended far beyond the classroom, and the lasting impact he made will be remembered by all who had the privilege of learning from him.

David will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his brother, Richard Sumner; his nieces and nephew, Joanne Sumner, Tricia Sumner, and Jim Sumner; his stepchildren, Christina Pelletier and Lisa daRosa; his dear friend, James Glennon; and many other loving relatives and cherished friends.
