David Joseph Edward Saumweber, 72, of Attleboro, MA, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 8, 2019 at home with his family at his side. He was the beloved husband of Rosemary "Patti" Elizabeth (Whitley) Saumweber, to whom he was married on July 31, 1971.
Born on June 21, 1947 in Los Angeles, CA, he was the son of the late Joseph Edward Saumweber and the late Virginia (Coates) Griswold.
David received both his Bachelor of Arts degree and his Master's degree from the University of Virginia, and worked for many years as a senior business executive with particular expertise in the fields of information technology and management. He served as Director of Information Management and Technology for the White House Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experiments, and as Director of Information Services for the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C.
A resident of Attleboro for the past eight months, he previously lived for many years in Maryland.
An avid reader with a keen interest in philosophy, archaeology, linguistics, and history, the center of David's life was truly his cherished family.
In addition to his wife, Patti, he leaves his loving children: Whitley Joseph Saumweber and his wife, Paula S. (Bontempi) Saumweber, of Silver Spring, MD; and Thompson David Saumweber and his wife, Shannon C. (Cloud) Saumweber, of Rehoboth, MA. He was the proud and adoring grandfather of Isabella R. Saumweber, Griffin T. Saumweber, Talan J. Saumweber, and Colson D. Saumweber. David was the brother of Mary Alexandra Spyker of Camus, WA; Monica Spillas of West Palm Beach, FL; and Marcia Saumweber of Alexandria, VA; and the step-brother of Cynthia Smith of Ellicott City, MD, and Glenda Griswold of Santa Fe, NM. He leaves several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
Friends and relatives are cordially invited to honor and remember David by gathering for a Memorial Visitation on Monday, February 18, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA, immediately followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 6:00 p.m. at Dyer-Lake Funeral Home.
A Celebration of David's Life will be held in Silver Spring, Maryland this Spring.
