David Allen Mattson

David Allen Mattson, 81 David Allen Mattson, 81, a long-time resident of North Attleboro, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the husband of Claire Louise (Muise) Mattson to whom he married on January 14, 1956 in Dedham, Massachusetts. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on September 27, 1932; Mr. Mattson was the son of the late August and Frances (Gifford) Mattson. He was a graduate of Norwood High School, Class of 1950. Mr. Mattson began his career as a bookbinder at the Plimpton Press in Norwood and eventually retired from Halliday Lithograph in Plympton, MA. He was most recently employed by Briggs Nursery in North Attleboro as an artistic hedge trimmer and also by the North Attleboro Parks and Recreation Department. Mr. Mattson was an outdoor enthusiast and enjoyed running his beagles in field trials, bird watching, fishing, and camping. He was fond of walking Cape Cod beaches, and vacationing in Florida. He was an avid gardener who took great pride in his garden. Most important to him was spending time with his grandchildren, going to great lengths to attend their sporting events, performances, and ceremonies. Mr. Mattson had been a one-time President of the Plainville Beagle Club and member of the Central Congregational Church in North Attleboro, where he previously served as a deacon. In addition to his wife; Mr. Mattson leaves four children: Brenda L. King of Wrentham; Nancy J. DeVellis and her husband David DeVellis of Duxbury; Beth E. Bolles and her husband Tyson Bolles of North Attleboro; Janice R. McKearney and her husband Sean J. McKearney of Attleboro; one sister: Ruth E. Newcombe and her husband John W. Newcombe of Plymouth; ten grandchildren: Kendra E. Pugh, Steven E. King, Evan A. King, Lindsay E. DeVellis, Krista A. DeVellis, Bridget E. Bolles, Shayla R. Bolles, Nicole C. McKearney, Matthew S. McKearney, Corey J. McKearney; and one great-grandchild: Joseph D. Pugh. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from 4-7 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue(exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, mile on the left, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the funeral service on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Central Congregational Church, 115 Commonwealth Avenue, Attleboro Falls, MA 02763 with Reverend Carole Baker, Officiating. Burial to follow at the Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum, Mount Hope Street, North Attleboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. Mattson's name may be made to the Central Congregational Church Memorial Fund.
