Dana Peter Hawkes

d. May 30, 2013

Dana Peter Hawkes passed away at Mass General Hospital at the age of 70. The youngest of six children, Dana was the son of the late Anna Snow and Elmer Davis Hawkes, a Marblehead family dating from the early 1700s. He was the brother of the late Andrew Hawkes, Elmer Davis Hawkes Jr., and sister, Madge Hawkes Pizzano. He is survived by sisters, Priscilla Hawkes Stocker, Sally Hawkes Jackson, and a niece, Catherine Michaud of Marblehead and nephews, Kent Stocker of Lynn, Christopher Stocker, Lincoln Jackson, David Jackson of Peabody, and Peter Jackson of Gloucester. A graduate of Marblehead High School and the Boston Museum School of Fine Art, Mr. Hawkes, an interior designer and graphic artist, had a long career in designer furniture and life-style sales. A gifted artist and avid reader he was a familiar figure at the Boston Athenaeum and lived for 40 years on Beacon Hill. An inveterate story teller, he was blessed with an exceptional memory, wry humor, an historical perspective and often reminisced in vivid detail about his colorful Marblehead childhood. He was also an early supporter of AIDS and LGBT groups. A generous mentor to many, and raconteur with a quick wit, he will be missed by many dear and devoted friends. At his request there will be no services. Interment will be in the Hawkes family plot in Marblehead.
