Cornelius “Neil” Thomas Hagerty, 80, of Plainville, MA passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family, following a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Mary “Pat” Patricia (McCarthy) Hagerty, to whom he was married on October 11, 1969.
Born in Boston, MA, on October 14, 1944, he was a son of the late Cornelius Edward Hagerty and the late Mary Elizabeth (Brogan) Hagerty. He had been a resident of Plainville since 1989.
He was a member of the Massachusetts National Guard for six years and was a member of the American Legion Post 76 in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston.
Mr. Hagerty was employed in the information technology industry, having worked for the former One Beacon for 38 years prior to his retirement.
He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Attleboro, MA. As an avid reader, he often read two to three books a week and enjoyed every murder mystery on Netflix and Prime. However, his most important and memorable times were those spent with his children and 8 grandchildren, all of whom he loved very much.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his children: Colleen Hurley and her husband, Kenneth Hurley, of Norwood, MA; Neil Patrick Hagerty and his wife, Heather Hagerty, of Westford, MA; and Michael W. Hagerty and his wife, Tina Hagerty, of Wrentham, MA. He also leaves eight grandchildren: Catherine, Aidan, Grace, Emma, Adam, Nathaniel, Mia, and Camryn; his siblings: Cornelia Ann Hagerty of Hull, MA and Gerard Michael Hagerty and his wife, Debra Hagerty, of Hull, MA; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Family and friends are warmly welcome to attend visitation on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. in the “Memorial Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA. This will be followed immediately by a Celebration of Life service at 5:30 p.m.
