Claire June (Lavallee) Stevens passed away in her home, as was her wish. She is predeceased by her husband of over 60 years, Nelson R. Stevens, Jr.
She leaves four beloved children, Nelson (Bob) Stevens and his wife Mary, Michael Stevens and his wife Laura, Leslie Dutra and her husband John and Susan McCabe and her husband Ed. She adored her 9 grandchildren - Nelson Stevens, Carolyn Phinney, Eric Stevens, Lauren Hertel, Julie Phaneuf, Elizabeth Turner, Andrya Stevens, EJ McCabe, Evan McCabe.
Watching the grandkids participate in dance and sports and then have children of their own brought great joy to Claire. She was delighted with her "greats" as she called her 10 great grandchildren. Her youngest sister, Elaine Bergeron survives her; her sister Janet Nelson and brothers Joe Lavallee and Paul Lavallee await her in heaven.
Claire was a remarkable woman, with a fine mind, wit, and clear decision making ability. She earned Life Master in Bridge in 1970. She mastered the personal computer in her 60s and then the iPad in her 80s. Claire was an avid reader and a lover of live theater from the time she was a young girl.
Claire continued to lead a productive and happy life even after her husband passed away. She was an independent thinker, a fine friend and a gracious and understanding woman whose consideration of others and compassionate understanding of human frailties was not typical of her time.
We will miss Claire who loved to chat, to entertain when she was well, and to appreciate with great pride the accomplishments of her children.
This obituary was lovingly prepared by Claire's family.
