Claire Ardell Hamilton

January 5, 1929 — November 14, 2022

Claire Ardell (Fairburn) Hamilton, 93, of Hingham, MA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 13, 2022, at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, MA. She was the beloved wife of the late Daniel "Dan" John Hamilton.
Born in Cambridge, MA, on January 5, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Fairburn and the late Annie Maude (Stewart) Fairburn.
A Licensed Practical Nurse who worked for many years as a psychiatric nurse at Fuller Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA, she received her education from the Cambridge City Hospital School of Nursing and the Foxboro State Hospital School of Nursing. She lived most of her life in North Attleboro, residing on Bungay Lake for over forty years in a home she helped to design.  She was known for her flare for home decorating for each and every season.
A woman of faith, she long attended Crossroads International Church in Attleboro.
Deeply proud of her Scottish ancestry, she was a debutante at the Scottish Ball and she and Dan were for many years very active in the Clan Hamilton Society. Claire's family was truly the center of her life, and more than anything, she cherished spending time with them.
A perfect day for Claire might be simply sitting on the deck at her family's home, basking in the warmth of the sun and watching her family, especially her grandchildren, playing outside, having canoe races on the lake, ziplining, ice skating in the winter months, and filling her home and her heart with the sounds of laughter and love. She loved spending time by the water, butterflies, lobster rolls, maple walnut ice cream, dining at the Chieftain restaurant, and trips to Florida.
She loved dressing with her family in Scottish plaid and entertaining often - even hosting Luau parties, playing the piano, and listening to the bagpipes. She was affectionately known as the "Queen" of Scrabble.
Her beautiful blue eyes, warm and welcoming smile, and contagious laugh will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved Claire.
Claire was the loving mother of Deborah F. Yingling and her husband, John J. Yingling, of Plymouth, MA; and Karen Jean McNamara and her husband, Kevin G. McNamara, of Easton, NH. She was the beloved mother of the late Dyanne Beth Benson.
Claire was the proud grandmother of Tammy McNamara and her husband, Sonny Rosa, Danny Jennett, Anna Yingling, Rachel Yingling Schwarz and her husband, Tobias Schwarz, Brittany Benson, Brandon Benson, and the late Jesse McNamara; and the adoring great-grandmother of Emma Leigh McNamara, Grace Lynn Rosa, Ruby Ann Rosa, and Jonathan Schwarz. She leaves several nieces and nephews: Susan Cotta, Cindy Wright, Doreen McCabe, Janice Nickerson, Tanya Wakefield, Douglas Fairburn, Heather Nelson, William Fairburn, Susan Vondereau, Robert Hamilton, Barbara Cinelli, Mark Hamilton, David Hamilton, and the late Robert Fairburn. She is predeceased by her brothers George Fairburn, Stewart Fairburn, and Douglas Fairburn.  She leaves her ever loving brother, Donald Fairburn of Wilmington, NC.  She also leaves her good friends, Carol Girard, Deborah Bradley Wolforth, Denise Wilbur and Joan McClutchy.
