Officer Christopher Ross Morrissey, 25, a correctional officer at MCI - Cedar Junction, Walpole, of Lawton Lane, Foxboro died unexpectedly on Monday, May 26, 2014 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. Born in Newton, Massachusetts on February 9, 1989, he was a beloved son of Kevin C. Morrissey, Sr. and Gail P. (McMahon) Morrissey of Foxboro. Chris was raised and educated in North Attleboro where he was a member of the Class of 2007 at North Attleboro High School. He earned his associate's degree in criminal justice from Northampton Community College. After residing in North Attleboro, Chris moved to Pennsylvania where he resided for two years prior to moving to Foxboro in 2010. He was employed as a correctional officer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at MCI - Cedar Junction, Walpole for the past year. Along with his family, he was a communicant of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, North Attleboro. A young man with a big heart, he was a volunteer with the Massachusetts Special Olympics. As a volunteer coach with SOMA he led his brother Kevin's basketball team to a silver medal. Chris was employed as a special education teacher's aide at Bi-County Collaborative in Foxboro. Chris was an avid baseball and basketball player. He was a perennial all-star in LNAL and has a homerun ball in the Cooperstown Youth Baseball Hall of Fame. Chris "dominated" pick-up basketball at the Hockomock Area YMCA where he spent most of his afternoons. Sunday mornings were his favorite, playing with his father and brother. In addition to his parents, he leaves two brothers: Kevin C. Morrissey, Jr. of Foxboro and Sean J. Morrissey of Manchester, New Hampshire; his paternal grandmother: Eleanor M. (Tambascio) Morrissey of Waltham; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends, and his beloved feline: "Little Boy Cat". He was the paternal grandson of the late John Conrad Morrissey and was the maternal grandson of the late George Leo and Mary Evelyn (Ward) McMahon. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with Correctional Officer Honors on Friday, May 30, 2014 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Those in need of a local ride to visitation may call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis transportation. Children's room available during visitation. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial with Correctional Officer Honors on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Park Street, North Attleboro with Rev. David A. Costa, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Towne Street, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. There will be no funeral cortege from the funeral home prior to the commencement of the funeral Mass. Please do not send flowers at the family's expressed desire. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hockomock Area YMCA, 300 Elmwood Street, North Attleboro, MA 02760.
