Christopher Francis Cronin, Sr.

Christopher Francis Cronin, Sr., 89, of North Washington Street, North Attleboro; formerly of Raymond Hall Drive, North Attleboro, died peacefully on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Madonna Manor Nursing Home in North Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of the late Lillian F. (McDonald) Cronin to whom he was married on June 7, 1947 and who died on August 18, 2003. Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on December 5, 1923, he was a son of the late William and Delia (McHugh) Cronin. Mr. Cronin attended Attleboro High School and Bristol Agricultural School. On that day of infamy, December 7, 1941, Mr. Cronin joined the Army Air Corps and was a bombardier in the European theatre of World War II and was shot down multiple times sustaining and eventually overcoming all of his injuries. While he was recovering and rehabilitating from his injuries he met his future wife, Lillian Fay McDonald, at Hampton Beach, New Hampshire where she was vacationing with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Cronin resided and raised their four children in North Attleboro and were married for 57 years before Mrs. Cronin succumbed to a sudden onset illness shortly after they moved to Florida. Mr. Cronin was employed by Texas Instruments as a master machinist for more than 40 years prior to his retirement. He leaves four children: Patricia A. Cronin-Sevigny, wife of the late Russell James Sevigny, of Plymouth; Christopher F. Cronin, Jr. of North Attleboro and his former wife, Joyce Noonan Cronin of East Providence, Rhode Island; Barry W. Cronin and his wife, Susan (Rickard) Cronin, of North Attleboro and Thomas H. Cronin and his wife, Janet (Randall) Cronin, of Shallotte, North Carolina; his beloved grandchildren: Christopher F. Cronin III of North Attleboro; Hayley D. Cronin of Austin, Texas: Kelley P. Cronin and Shannon H. Cronin of North Attleboro and the late Daniel W. Cronin; his siblings: Agnes Cronin Frederickson of Norton and Walter Cronin of Chatham and Naples, Florida and the late William Cronin and their children as well as the children of Mrs. Cronin's siblings. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with Veteran's Honors on Friday, December 21, 2012 from 4:00 - 6:45 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Those in need of a ride to visitation may call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis transportation. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the funeral immediately following visitation on Friday, December 21, 2012 at 7:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Burial with military honors will be held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Children's room available during visitation and the funeral. Following funeral services on Friday evening, December 21, 2012 an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship, refreshments and remembrance at a location to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Resident Activities Fund at Madonna Manor Nursing Home, 85 North Washington Street, North Attleboro, MA 02760.
