Chetan Anand, 78, of Bridgewater, MA, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Brockton Hospital in Brockton, MA. He was the beloved husband of Vimlesh (Sharma) Anand, who he married on July 12, 1975.
Born on August 29, 1942 in Lahore, Pakistan (British India), he was the son of the late Pandit Kharati Ram and the late Shkuntla (Bhardwaj) Devi.
Raised and educated in India, he was a Mechanic in the Indian Air Force. Chetan worked for many years as a Banking Coordinator in the Wire Transfer Department of State Street Bank in Boston, MA, before retiring in 2004. He was a resident of Bridgewater since 2009.
Chetan was truly a man full of life, devoted to his faith and to his cherished family. He loved the sport of cricket: playing in his earlier years in India, proudly serving as a Head Umpire in this country. Chetan was one of the founders of the VPS Cricket Tournament through the Vrindavan Society and Braj Mandir of Sri Radha Bhakti. The yearly Cricket Tournament became widely popular all over New England. People from diverse backgrounds participated, and this event became a part of their annual celebration to look forward to. Mayor Koch of Quincy was impressed with the hard work of Chetan Anand and his long time friend Nikhil, and dedicated one of the parks in Germantown to the organization naming it VPS Cricket Field.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his loving children: Sanchita Malapaka and her husband, Chandrashekar Malapaka, of Clermont, FL; Rohit Anand and his wife, Jasmit K. Anand, of West Roxbury, MA; and Monica Anand of Quincy, MA. He was the proud and adoring grandfather of Tulsi K. Malapaka, Veer T. Malapaka, and Amara K. Anand. Chetan was the brother of Chiranjit Sharma, Veena Hardat, and Kamlesh Sharma, all of New York. He leaves four nieces: Archana Hardat, Vinita Bhasin, Shivani Soshiel, and Nidhi Khurana; several cousins, his extended family, and many dear friends.
