Charles T. Grant, 95, of Canterbury Woods, Garfield Avenue, Attleboro; formerly of North Main Street, Attleboro and Mansfield and Cumberland, Rhode Island; died on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at the Golden Living Center Garden Place, Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of the late Doris (Brown) Grant to whom he was married on June 14, 1941 and who died on November 24, 2005. Born in a small fishing village in Nova Scotia, Canada on January 4, 1916, Mr. Grant was the son of the late Ernest A. and Annie V. (Thurgood) Grant. He was raised and educated in the Boston area having been a 1934 graduate of the former Mechanic Arts High School and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Northeastern University in 1938. Mr. Grant was a engineer having worked for many years in the optical industry as he was employed by Universal Optical in Providence; Univis Frame in North Attleboro and American Optical and Shurbon-Textron in New York. He moved to Attleboro in 1986 having previously resided in Mansfield from 1978 1986 and was a former resident of Cumberland, Rhode Island and Rochester, New York. He was a member of Sturbridge Federated Church. Mr. Grant attended the Attleboro Council on Aging and as an ardent golfer was a former member of the Wading River Golf Club. He leaves a son: Philip L. Grant of Sodus, New York and three grandchildren. Mr. Grant was predeceased by his son, Clifford T. Grant who died on July 31, 2008 and his siblings: Ernest Grant and Eric Grant. At his request all services will be conducted privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. Grants name may be made to the Dyer-Lake Charitable Foundation, Inc., a registered 501 (c) 3 organization, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, North Attleboro, MA 02760 to support local non-profit organizations.
