Charles Henry Bellavance, 91, of Old Elm Street, Mansfield, died on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the Epoch Senior Health Care in Norton where he had resided since November 2013. He was the husband of the late Betty June (Barrett) Bellavance to whom he was married on August 4, 1956 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and who died on April 5, 2007. Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on December 2, 1922, he was a son of the late Paul J. and Rose M. (Godd) Bellavance. He moved to Mansfield more than 55 years ago from his native city of Attleboro. A veteran of the United States Navy, Mr. Bellavance served aboard the U.S.S. Kearney from his enlistment on December 31, 1941 until his honorable discharge on November 2, 1945. Mr. Bellavance was a machinist at the former Foxboro Company for many years prior to his retirement in 1985. Previously, Mr. Bellavance was employed by the Charles Richardson Company in Mansfield. He was a communicant of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Mansfield. Mr. Bellavance was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks - North Attleboro Lodge # 1011 and the American Legion - Post in Mansfield. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing horseshoes and walking in the woods with his dog, "Tilly". The Downtown Café in Norton named a pizza, the "Charlie Garlic" after him and the Mansfield Garden Club dedicated one of their publications in his honor. He leaves four children: Mary Bellavance of Lisbon, New Hampshire; Joseph Bellavance of Mansfield; Peter Bellavance of Mansfield and James Bellavance of Ocala, Florida; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother: Ralph Bellavance of Jenson Beach, Florida and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. He was the brother of the late Walter, Paul, Francis and Harold Bellavance and the late Dorothy Fletcher. Visitation has been respectfully omitted.
