Carol Marie (Haskell) Scanlan, 71, of Ridgehill Road, Attleboro, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 26, 2011 at the Life Care Center of Attleboro as she was surrounded by the love of her devoted and caring family. She was the beloved wife of Paul W. Scanlan, Sr. to whom she was married on December 27, 1969. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on Christmas Day, December 25, 1939, she was a daughter of the George C. and Julia A. (Ryan) Haskell. She was raised and educated in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston where she was a 1957 graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School. She earned her associate degree in business administration from Cardinal Cushing College in 1959. Following college, Mrs. Scanlan was employed as an office manager for Dr. Joseph Dorgan, an orthopedic surgeon from 1961 until 1971 when she devoted herself tirelessly to her family. A dedicated homemaker to her husband, children and, in later years, her cherished grandchildren, Mrs. Scanlan was affiliated with the family business, Boardman Insurance Agency, in South Attleboro for many years. Mrs. Scanlan resided in Attleboro since 1969 having first resided in the South Attleboro community from 1969 1974 when she moved to Attleboro. A woman of strong religious beliefs, Mrs. Scanlan was a daily communicant of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Attleboro where she served her church family as a Eucharistic minister, member of the church choir, a member of the Women of Spirit and dedicated volunteer. An active community advocate and volunteer, she devoted countless hours and much energy to the residents of the greater Attleboro area including the time she gave as part of the Sturdy Memorial Auxiliary. Mrs. Scanlan was a member of the North Purchase Club and the Highland Country Club. She will be most lovingly remembered by her family as a wonderfully loving wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt and friend to many. With love and affection she was described as the best wife and mother in the world. In addition to her husband of almost 42 years, she leaves four children: Kathleen A. Scanlan-Jones and her husband, Andrew M. Jones, of North Attleboro; Maura N. DiMarco of Attleboro; Thomas J. Scanlan of Hollywood, Florida and Paul W. Scanlan, Jr. of Sacramento, California; seven grandchildren: Ryan C. Jones, Anna C. Jones, William A. Jones and Charles T. Jones all of North Attleboro; Briana A. DiMarco and Caroline A. DiMarco both of Attleboro and Kevin M. Scanlan of Grass Valley, California; two brothers: George Haskell and his wife, Eleanor (Reardon) Haskell, of Needham and Donald Haskell and his wife, Diane (Griffin) Haskell, of Franklin and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. She was the beloved sister of the late Mary Ann Zern. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Those in need of a ride to visitation may call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis transportation. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the Funeral on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 8:30 AM from the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 133 North Main Street Route 152, Attleboro, with the Rev. Richard M. Roy, Pastor and her dear friend, the Rev. Joseph Paquette, Pastor of St. Theresas Church, Pawtucket, Rhode Island, co-officiating. Childrens room is available during the visitation and while the funeral cortege is being organized. Burial will immediately follow church services at St. Johns Cemetery, Attleboro. Following cemetery services, an invitation will be extended to return with the family to the Hospitality Center of St. John the Evangelist Church for a time of continued fellowship, refreshments and remembrance. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mrs. Scanlans name may be made to the Bishop Feehan High School Development Fund, 70 Holcott Drive, Attleboro, MA 02703.
