Carol L. (Donovan) Looney, 73, of Milton and formerly of Dedham, passed away on August 17, 2014 at the Spaulding Nursing and Therapy Centre in West Roxbury following a brief bout with cancer. A retired nurse practitioner, Mrs. Looney was the wife of the late James Timothy Looney. She is survived by her children: Allison Looney of Milton and Timothy Looney and his wife, Telma, of Millville and her grandchildren: Julia and Jessica Looney. She was predeceased by her daughter, Valerie Looney. Mrs. Looney was the daughter of the late Charles and Pauline Donovan and was the sister of Margaret Donovan of Mashpee, formerly of Milton, Sheila Smith of Stoughton, Kathleen Cole of Hyde Park and the late Lucille Stevens and Virginia Anderson. After graduation from Holy Cross Academy in Brookline, she earned her diploma in nursing in 1962 from the Massachusetts Memorial Hospital nursing program. She later earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Curry College and her M.S. degree in nursing administration from the University of Massachusetts, Boston. She completed the Adult Nurse Practitioner Program of Boston College and became a nurse practitioner. As a nurse practitioner she worked at Boston Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jamaica Plain and at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital. With a lifelong interest in geriatrics, she had worked as an R.N., in charge nurse or supervisor positions, at Hamilton House Convalescent Home, Village Manor Nursing Home, Parkwell Nursing Home, Mattapan Hospital, and Frank Wood Convalescent Home. She also had worked at Massachusetts Correctional Institution at Norfolk and at Milton Hospital. Her most recent work was for the Boston Public Schools, first as a regular employee and then as a substitute nurse. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at 10:15 AM St. Mary of the Hills Church, 260 Brook Road, Milton. The family will invite attendees to join them for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced following services.
