Plainville, MA ? Carl L. Smith, 64, of Ewald Avenue, Plainville, passed away in his home on Saturday, January 1, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Ellen (Foley) Smith with whom he recently celebrated their thirtieth wedding anniversary. Born Boston, Massachusetts on April 11, 1946, he was the son of Ruth (Ferris) (Smith) Hart and stepson of the late Nelson T. Hart.He was a loving husband, son, brother and uncle. Carl?s passion was cooking, especially for his family.He leaves behind his step-sister Gay Hartand sister, Carole (Smith) Fiola and husband James, brothers-in-law, Joseph Foley and partner Dean Hadley; John Foley and wife Claire; Edward Foley; and his sister-in-law, Fran (Foley) (Freudenberg) Cirillo. Additionally, he will be missed by his nieces and nephews, Kristen Fiola; Andrew Fiola and fiance Kristin Parker; Denise Freudenberg and husband Marc Svitunas; MaryJo (Foley) Aguiar and husband Matthew; Daniel Foley; Matthew Cirillo and fiance Allison Lane; Aaron Cirillo; Michael Cirillo; Sean Foley and wife Lindsay; Lucas Foley; Jessie Foley and one great-nephew Brendan Cirillo. Also very special to Carl were his cousin, Scott Montgomery and his partner Marc Rand as well as Gary Comstock, a family friend. At Carl?s request, visitation has been respectfully omitted.A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Plainville Cemetery, West Bacon Street (Route 1 N or S to Route 106 West, which is East Bacon Street, cross Route 1A ?
