Burton Raymond Phipps, 56, of Park Street, Attleboro, MA, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA. Born in Attleboro, MA on January 21, 1959, he was a son of the late Richard A. Phipps and Barbara Rita (Burton) Boyd of Attleboro. A longtime resident of North Attleboro, Burton was a graduate of North Attleboro High School, Class of 1977, where he was a member of the football team. He was a talented tradesman who worked with many area contractors and particularly valued the time working alongside his brother, Rick. He took great pride as the owner and operator of RAB Construction Company in North Attleboro. He was a tireless advocate for the blind and for those in need in the community. He was a member of the Lincoln Circle for the Blind, and volunteered at many of the area food pantries. He always lent a hand at the local Christmas dinner in South Attleboro. He loved to cook and was an excellent athlete who especially enjoyed skiing, scuba diving, and roller-skating. Burton enjoyed traveling and time spent at Race Point Beach, in Provincetown, and at Horseneck Beach. Burton is survived by his beloved mother, Barbara R. Boyd of Attleboro, MA; and was the loving brother of Kenneth W. Phipps and his wife, Linda (Lyman) Phipps of Plainville, MA; Richard F. Phipps of Newton, MA; Thomas B. Phipps and his wife, Sandra (Van Cleef) Phipps of FL; and Sallyanne (Phipps) Monahan and her husband, Kevin F. Monahan of Stoughton, MA. He was the step-brother of Leslie, Robin, Billy Boyd and Faith Boyd-Trost; and leaves his close friends, Richard Anderson and cousin Timmy; as well as his aunt, many cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and many dear friends. He was the grandson of the late Raymond and Sarah Burton, and Nathan and Bertha Phipps; the step-son of the late Lester C. Boyd; brother of the late Nathan "Scott" Phipps and Marc Phipps; and step-brother of the late Ellen Boyd. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Centenary Methodist Church, 39 North Main Street, Attleboro, MA 02703. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Burton's memory to the South Attleboro Lions to benefit the Vision Program at P.O. Box 3254, Attleboro MA 02703.
