Burton L. "Bud" Doble, Jr. of North Attleboro, MA and Newburyport, MA passed away peacefully on December 17, 2020, due to complications from Alzheimer's disease. He was the husband of the late Carol (Sysak) Doble who died on April 17, 2021, and the late Judith (Handfield) Doble to whom he had been married for 45 years at the time of her passing.
He was pre-deceased by his brothers: Robert Doble and Walter Doble and his sisters: Helen Moran, Muriel Correia, Marjorie Carpenter, and Dorothy Bennett.
Bud was born in Weymouth, MA on February 26, 1930, to the late Burton L. Doble Sr. and the late Helen (Pratt) Doble.
He was the youngest of 8 children and lost his parents at an early age. He was lovingly given a home by his oldest brother Robert and his wife, which enabled him to stay in Weymouth through high school, excelling at football and baseball. He spent time with all his brothers and sisters in his early years, establishing a lifelong joy in being with each other. That legacy was passed onto their children.
Bud started his working career as a messenger at the former Shawmut Bank in Boston. His career was briefly interrupted when he was drafted into the Army in 1951. Upon his discharge, he and Judy married, raising their family of six children while Bud attended Northeastern at night and moved up the career ladder at Shawmut.
In 1977, Bud achieved one of his career goals, becoming the president of Merrimack Cooperative Bank, now Valley Cooperative Bank, in Lawrence, MA. He then moved on to become president of United Cooperative Bank in Springfield, MA, from which he retired in 1992.
Upon his retirement, Bud and Judy moved to New Hampshire, where Bud continued to do consultative work and became active on some town boards in Hampton Falls. After Judy's death, he moved back to the North Attleboro area in 1999, where he eventually met and married Carol.
Bud's family, collectively and separately, have so many great memories of him - too many to include here. They are all characterized by Bud's devotion to family, friends, and employees; his ability to enjoy a good laugh while making others laugh, and above all, his ability to overcome adversity and appreciate what life had to offer him.
Bud is survived by one sister: Jane Caldwell, of Hadley, MA; his son: Alan (Rhea) Doble of Flowery Branch, GA; and his daughters: Laurie (Chester) Richardson of North Attleboro, MA, Marcy Doble of Middleton, NH, and Sharon (Robert) Bolen of Boxford, MA.
He was also the father of the late Wayne Doble and the late Craig Doble and the stepfather of David Duphiney and the late Christopher Duphiney. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Amy Doble, Alina Doble, Elisha Lee, Kristin Richardson Sinclair (Elliott), Jeffrey Richardson, and Andrew Dion. He also leaves three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are cordially invited to honor Bud by attending a Memorial Visitation with Veteran's Honors in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA, on Saturday, August 7, 2021, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life and Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m.
The family requests that attendees wear the color "blue" as it was Bud's favorite.
Burial with military honors will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum, Mount Hope Street, North Attleboro, MA.
The family would like to extend its most heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Avita of Newburyport for their tremendous care over the past 14 months and to Michelle, Makayla and Susan of Compassus Hospice of North Andover for their compassionate care.
