Burton Stanley Cole

Burton "Burt" Stanley Cole, 77, of Easton, MA passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016 at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, MA. He was the husband of the late Priscilla Ann (Bennion) Cole, with whom he shared thirty-seven happy years of marriage.Born on June 28, 1938 in Taunton, MA, he was the son of the late Harold E. Cole and the late Harriet E. (Perry) Cole. Burt was raised in Taunton, MA. He graduated from Taunton High School, Class of 1955, and attended Barrington College. He later moved to Norton, MA, and retired from employment by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts after twenty-nine years in the Department of Employment Services. He was a communicant of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Foxborough, MA.A life-long Episcopalian, Burt took great comfort in his faith throughout his life and will always be remembered at St. Mark's for his ministry as a Sunday school teacher and as a lector, and particularly for his deep and commanding voice which resonated throughout the sanctuary on many Sunday mornings. Burt was also very proud of his fifty year membership in the Masonic Order and Order of the Eastern Star. He was a former member of the Attleboro Citizens Band Radio Club, a hobby which he shared with his wife.Burt leaves his nephew, Steven Cole, and his family; his brother-in-law, David Bennion, and his family; and his dear friends, Ed and Laura Karol, and Patricia Penza, whom Burt embraced as "family". He was predeceased by his close companion, Diane Messaline. Burt was the brother of the late Donald Cole and Allan R. Cole, and son-in-law of the late Elsie (Rhodes) Bennion.Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Visitation on Friday, June 3, 2016 from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service immediately following visitation on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, with the Reverend Edward Cardoza of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Foxborough, presiding.Burial services will follow in Oak Knoll Cemetery, Rehoboth, MA.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Burton's name to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 116 South Street, Foxborough, MA 02035.
