Bruce Fairbanks Merritt

Bruce Fairbanks Merritt, 86, of Attleboro, MA passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2016, at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, MA. He was the beloved husband of fifty-five years of the late Norma Ruth (Casey) Merritt.Born on November 26, 1929, in Attleboro, MA, he was the son of the late Charles John Merritt and the late Janet Reliance (Draper) Merritt.A graduate of Attleboro High School, Class of 1947, he was a resident of Attleboro for many years and presently spent the majority of his time with his dear companion Judith Gramstorff, in Worcester, MA. Bruce was an engineering aid at Texas Instruments for thirty-three years. He also proudly served for eight years in the Massachusetts National Guard of the United States. Bruce lovingly cared for his wife during her 14 years of dialysis treatments. A highlight of recent times was his first trip to Europe with Judy where he visited the Beaches of Normandy which reflected his love of history. He also enjoyed gardening, sports especially the NY Yankees and the Green Bay Packers, and viewed his life from a pantologist perspective. Bruce is survived by his beloved daughters, Brucene Ann (Merritt) LaGreca of Cumberland, RI and her husband Angelo Joseph, Jr., Maurene Merritt of Attleboro, MA; Karen Reliance Merritt of Mexico; and Sydda R. Merritt of Westerly, RI. He was the grandfather of seven grandchildren: Kristene, AJ, Candyce, Jonathan, Charles, Joseph, and Molly, and four great grandchildren: Kyle, Jason, Jon, Jr., and Tommy and was looking forward to the first great granddaughter. Bruce was the half-brother of the late Charles John, Jr., Sydda Straker, and Russell Merritt. Friends and relatives are cordially invited to attend a Visitation Friday, June 3, 2016 from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday June 4, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at Dyer-Lake Funeral Home.
