Bishop Pius Njehia Macharia of Worcester, MA, peacefully passed away at his home on Thursday, March 23, 2017, surrounded by his loving family after a valiant and hard-fought fight against cancer. He was the loving and beloved husband of Agnes Nyambura Njihia. Born on January 1, 1943 in Narok, Kenya, he was the son of the late Macharia Nyambura and the late Wairimu Macharia of Kenya. A resident of Worcester, MA since 2015, he was raised and educated in Narok, Kenya, where he worked for many years as a School Teacher. He had the privilege of serving the Lord as Bishop and founder of the Winners Gospel Church in Worcester, MA. A deeply spiritual, faithful, loving, and God fearing man, he enjoyed taking daily walks, traveling the world, watching CNN News, gospel church, and wrestling, but more than anything else, he loved spending time with his treasured family and grandchildren. Bishop Macharia was a true inspiration and legend to his family and to all whose lives he touched. "Papa" will always be in the hearts of his family. In addition to his wife, he leaves his cherished children: Florence Wairimu Pius, Saimon Kariuki Pius, Grace Wangui Pius, and Richard Kamua Pius, all of Kenya; Daniel Macharia Pius of Fitchburg, MA; Tabitha Pius of Worcester, MA; and Anne Mwangi Pius of Worcester, MA. He was the beloved father of the late John Macharia, Samuel Macharia, Tabitha Muthoni, and David Macharia. Bishop Macharia was the adoring grandfather of twelve grandchildren and one great-grandson. He leaves five brothers and two sisters in Kenya, and was predeceased by two additional brothers. He leaves numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends both in the United States and in Kenya.Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Visitation and Funeral Service on Sunday, April 2, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Liberty Church, 495 Hartford Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA. Burial will be in Bishop Macharia's homeland on Kenya. In lieu of flowers, his family has requested that donations may be made in Bishop Macharia's memory to his family at 44 Byron Street, Apt. 3, Worcester, MA 01606, with their genuine appreciation.
