ATTLEBORO Bertha Irene (Clegg) Hayes of Attleboro died on February 3 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital at the age of 82. She was a loving wife, mother and friend, as well as a lively, vibrant and strong-willed woman who enjoyed life, and was active and true to her nature to the very end. She went through her life with a twinkle in her bright blue eyes and usually a sparkling ring or two on each hand, and often on each finger. But she knew the value of true gold---she found it in her husband of 57 years, the late Robert Hamilton Hayes of Attleboro. Together they shared a weekly date night --- usually dinner and a movie, which remained a regular feature and a possible key to their long, loving and happy marriage. You could look at them together and know that they were in love and always would be. They enjoyed travel, movies and dancing as well as simply spending time together and with their family. Born in Cranston, RI on May 4, 1928, daughter to Arthur Clegg and Irene (Champagne) Clegg, she is survived by two daughters; Roberta L. Hayes, of Attleboro, Deborah L. Zuilkowski of Denmark, NY, a son, Kenneth R. Hayes of Attleboro, one grandchild, Joshua M. Zuilkowski, as well as two sisters and several nieces and nephews. She will be remembered and missed. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Ave., Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, 508-695-0200. Family and friends are invited to attend a service at the Spring Brook Cemetery, Mansfield, MA which will be held in the spring.
