Bernadette Marie (Dargis) Riley, 85, of East Street, North Attleboro, died on Friday, January 16, 2015 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro following a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Norman Edward Riley, Sr. Born in the family home in North Attleboro, Massachusetts on April 3, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Blanche (Alix) Dargis Wain. She was raised and educated in North Attleboro where she remained a resident for most of her life. Mrs. Riley was a devoted and dedicated homemaker to her children and many years ago had been employed as nursing assistant at Madonna Manor Nursing Home in North Attleboro. Always strong, optimistic and polite, Mrs. Riley cherished her family and she treasured the time spent babysitting for them. Strong in her faith, Mrs. Riley was a lifelong communicant of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in North Attleboro. She was devoted to St. Jude. She will be lovingly remembered for her mantra, "love starts at home". Mrs. Riley loved to correspond the "old-fashioned" way by hand writing letters and documenting her thoughts about life, prayers and dreams for her family. She leaves five children: Bernadette Sharron and her husband, Neal Sharron, of Plainville; Norma Lanthier and her companion, Dennis Doyle, in Florida; Janice Gammons and her husband, Robert Gammons, of North Attleboro; Jacqueline Lachapelle and her husband, Edward "Ted" Lachapelle, with whom she had been staying at their home in North Attleboro and Deborah Riley and her companion, Edward Hikey, of North Attleboro; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; her siblings: Theresa Wilbee of North Attleboro and Richard Wain of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; several nieces, nephews, extended family members and cherished friends. Her heart was broken and never recovered from the loss of her son, Norman E. Riley, Jr., who died on August 16, 1983. She was the grandmother of the late Jamie M. Gammons who died on January 8, 2007. She was the sister of the late Henry Dargis, Blanche Marsland, Charles Wain, Albert Wain, Robert Wain and Donald Wain. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend the Funeral Service on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 1:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Towne Street, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Children's room is available during the visitation and the funeral service. Following cemetery services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at the American Legion, 437 Newport Avenue, South Attleboro.
