Barbara Rae (Stuart) Bettencourt

November 7, 1945 — August 17, 2022

Barbara Rae (Stuart) Bettencourt, 76, of Attleboro, MA, formerly of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, died on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA after having been surrounded by her loving family.  She was the wife of the late Paul "The Baitman" Bettencourt to whom she had been married for 43 years at the time of his death on April 10, 2021.
Born in Franklin, MA on November 7, 1945, she was a daugther of the late Frederick Ivan Stuart and the late Patricia Loretta (Cray) Stuart.
She was raised and educated in Franklin, MA and Plainville, MA and moved to Pawtucket, RI many years ago before moving to the City of Attleboro last year.  She was a graduate of King Philip Regional High School and later earned an associate degree.
Mrs. Bettencourt was employed by the former Victoria & Co. in Warwick, RI and later in Pawtucket, RI where she started on the factory floor and eventually became an accounts payable clerk having worked for the company many years prior to her retirement.
Her family has countless memories of Barbara, fondly recalling her as the family storyteller.  She leaves a "legacy of love" and will be remembered for her love of reading and instilling that in her family, playing card games such as cribbage, Hi Lo Jack and rummy.
Barbara could take the worst situation and make it better.  She was creative and artistic and enjoyed writing poetry.
With a laugh, her family recalls she was always late for EVERYTHING.  As an amazing cook, she loved to prepare omelets for her family even though she did not eat them.  Although she enjoyed gardening, she was burdened with a "black thumb".
Jeopardy and The Wheel of Fortune were her two favorite television programs.
However, her truest satisfaction came with creating lifelong memories with her cherished family.
Left to mourn her loss are her two daughters: Amanda Doucette and her husband, Gregg Doucette, of North Providence, Rhode Island; and Paula Bettencourt and her wife, Amanda I. Bettencourt, of South Dennis, MA; a stepdaughter: Desiree Anderson Myers and her husband, Sam Myers, of Cleveland, Tennessee; seven grandchildren: Keyarra, Abigayle, Melina, Jocelyn, David, Bryan and Alex; two great grandchildren: David and Antonio; her sister: Robin C. Bertch of Chesterfield, Virginia and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
She was the sister of the late Sandra Patricia Bagley who died in 2016.
