Barbara A. (Donovan) Smith, 61, of Attleboro, passed away from ovarian cancer on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA. Born on August 19, 1954 in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. Donovan and the late Rita A. (Kelly) Donovan.Barbara was a tireless advocate for those affected by ovarian cancer, and often spoke and taught about this in Washington, DC, at Tufts New England Medical Center, and at many other venues. She was a member of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.Barbara is survived by her cherished daughter, Courtney E. Smith of Attleboro, MA. She was the loving sister of Thomas J. Donovan and his wife, Elizabeth L., of Medfield, MA; William A. Donovan and his wife, Ruth G., of Dedham, MA; and Richard J. Donovan of Dedham, MA. She was the adoring aunt of Karen E. Kierce, Thomas J. Donovan, Robert J. Donovan, Jason A. Donovan, and Amy D. Schmidt; and leaves many great nieces and nephews.Family and friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Sunday, June 26, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.
