Barbara Ann Shannon, 80, of North Attleboro, passed away at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI on Wednesday, May 3, 2017. Born on January 4, 1937 in Boston, MA, she was the devoted daughter of the late John J. Shannon and the late Margaret M. (Dineen) Shannon.Barbara spent most of her life in Arlington, MA, having attended the St. Agnes School and graduating from Arlington High School. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Lesley College. Barbara was a much loved and respected teacher for thirty-five years in Woburn, MA. She moved to North Attleboro in 1994 and began her business career working at Filene's Basement and Liz Claiborne stores. She most recently worked as a Hostess at Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, bringing with her great care, compassion, and warmth.Barbara enjoyed travel, sports, gardening, and home and seasonal decorating. Most of all, she treasured time spent with family and friends.She was the dear sister of the late Mary Jane Shannon Seery, Margaret Carroll and her husband, James Carroll of North Attleboro, MA, and the late John Shannon and his wife, Donna Shannon of Mashpee, MA. Barbara was the cherished aunt of eleven nieces and nephews, and the loving grand-aunt of twenty-eight grand-nieces and grand-nephews; known affectionately as "Nana-Barbie" to many of them. She also leaves to mourn her loss Francis and Honey Seery, Ruthe Shannon, her extended family, and many dear and loving friends. She was the beloved aunt of the late Gregory Seery.Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Visitation on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.Friends and family are cordially invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 58 Church Street, North Attleboro, MA, with Father David Costa officiating.Burial will be private in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington, MA, at which time Barbara will be laid to rest alongside her parents.It was Barbara's wish that those who attend her visitation or funeral services dress in colorful clothing as if going to a party of some kind in recognition of the celebration of her life here on Earth and in Heaven.
