Obituary

Barbara Anne (Cyrulik) Brennan passed away peacefully with her family at her side following a courageous health battle.

Born in Middletown, CT, she was the daughter of the late Francis Cyrulik, retired Fire Chief, and Ladisla (Charlotte) Cyrulik. She earned her BSN from the University of Connecticut School of Nursing in 1961 and later completed a Master's Degree at Cambridge College, Institute of Open Education, along with advanced studies at the Boston University School of Public Health.

Barbara proudly served in the United States Navy Nurse Corps, attaining the rank of Ensign at the U.S. Naval Hospital in St. Albans, NY. Her nursing career spanned more than 40 years, including leadership roles at Queens, Pondville and Norwood Hospitals, and later as Director of Nursing at Maples Rehabilitation. She retired in 2006 and continued consulting until 2015. She was widely respected for her compassion, leadership, and dedication. Barbara also volunteered at the Attleboro Senior Center and with Maples Little Angels.

She loved traveling, including trips to Germany to see the Passion Play, the Caribbean, Mediterranean cruises, and across the United States, exploring Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, the Grand Tetons, and Redwood National Park. Summers at Hampton Beach, NH, were cherished times with family.

Barbara adored her dogs-her German Shepard, F.X., Saint Bernard, Kebo, and Golden Retrievers, Morgan and Holly-and enjoyed cooking for family and friends, gardening, canning, and caring for her flowers and birds.

She was a devoted aunt to John and Julie and proud great-aunt to Arya and Safya. Barbara is survived by her sister Patricia Bugaj; her niece Julie Bugaj; her nephew John Bugaj and his wife Manisha; her grand-nieces; and many loving relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Francis Jr.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Maples Rehabilitation Nursing Center, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Care One at Sharon, and Ascend Palliative and Hospice for their compassionate care.
