Audray E. (Arnold) Nero, 93, of Canterbury Woods, Garfield Avenue, Attleboro and formerly of Mayfair Road, South Dennis and East Bridgewater, passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday, November 7, 2011. She was the loving and devoted wife of Peter J. Nero, Sr. to whom she was married on July 6, 1951.Born in Evanston, Illinois on September 6, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Edwin and Eva (Spori) Arnold. Raised and educated in Illinois, Mrs. Nero entered the United States Army on August 1, 1947 following nursing school and served honorably until her discharge on December 21, 1951 with the rank of Captain.She was employed as a registered nurse in the emergency room at Cardinal Cushing Hospital in Brockton for many years prior to obtaining her license to practice as a nurse practitioner. She was a graduate of the first class of nurse practitioners at Northeastern University in Boston at the age of 62. As a nurse practitioner, Mrs. Nero was employed with the Brockton Medical Group and with the practice of Dr. Rako in Stoughton.Mrs. Nero just recently moved to Attleboro from South Dennis where she had resided since 1983. Prior to moving to Cape Cod, Mrs. Nero lived in East Bridgewater for several years. For many years she and her husband wintered in Florida having spent more than 30 years in the Florida Keys and the past five winters in Ft. Myers, Florida. Audray was an avid fisherwoman and treasured the times spent on the ocean with her husband fishing and waiting for the next big catch. She always loved a new adventure or experience. A self-described lifelong learner she enrolled in computer classes at the age of 79 and soon spent much of her time online and was an ardent Facebook user. She lived by the philosophy of If you cannot have what you want, want what you have.In addition to her husband of 60 years, she leaves her children and their spouses: Peter J. Nero, Jr. and Dianne of St. Charles, Illinois; Mary Nero-Kenney and James Kenney of Mansfield; Carol Nero-Nevola and Al Nevola of Pt. St. Lucie, Florida; Paul Nero and Jules of Boise, Idaho and Thom Nero and Susan of West Palm Beach, Florida. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren: Loren and Peter J. Nero, III; James, Jr. and Jenna Kenney; Anala Nero; and Thomas Jr., Joseph, Christina and Angela Nero.
