Arthur "Art" Alden Stebbings, 82, of Rehoboth, MA, crossed over to glory on Monday. November 28, 2016 surrounded by his beloved wife, Fern M. (Gilkenson) Stebbings, and his family. Born on November 19, 1934 in Pawtucket, RI, Art was the son of the late Arthur Ord Stebbings and the late Ceinwyn (Wheatley) Stebbings. He was a graduate of Attleboro High School, Class of 1952, and the Rhode Island School of Design, Class of 1958, from where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts. Art launched "The Source", a business-to-business advertising agency in Attleboro in 1970, which later became Stebbings Associates of Attleboro Falls, currently Stebbings Partners, a design, brand communications, and media advertising company. Art entered the service of the United States Coast Guard in 1954 and honorably and proudly served out of Gloucester, MA. He resigned his commission as a Lieutenant in 1967.He was a lifelong member of Good News Bible Chapel that was planted by his father and mother in 1935. Known at GNBC as "Alden" to avoid confusion with his dad, he served in many roles through the years, including hosting bible study groups in his home, providing Christian counseling for many couples, and leading the ministries of the Chapel - first on South Main Street, and later at the current West Street location - as part of the team of Elders.Art loved the game of golf and enjoyed playing softball on the Good News Bible Chapel team for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family at their cabin on Newfound Lake in Hebron, New Hampshire and vacations at Orange Lake Country Club in Kissimmee, FL. Art was heavily involved in leading and supporting the ministry of Camp Berea, a Christian youth camp on Newfound Lake, volunteering as a counselor early on, and later serving on the Board of Directors for many years, ultimately as President of the Board.Art was known to all for his ready laugh, his kindness and gentleness, his business leadership skills, his wise counsel, and his commitment to faithfully serving Jesus Christ in any way needed.He was the loving father of five children: Deb (Stebbings) DuPlessie and her husband, Steve DuPlessie, of Attleboro, MA; Dawn (Stebbings) Lunn and her husband, Richard Lunn, of Attleboro, MA; David Stebbings and his wife, Ellen Stebbings, of Attleboro, MA; Dena (Stebbings) Warner and her husband, Arthur Warner, of Rehoboth, MA; and Daniel Stebbings and his wife, Michelle Stebbings, of Rehoboth, MA. Art leaves twenty cherished grandchildren: Matthew DuPlessie and his wife, Beth DuPlessie; Meegan (DuPlessie) Delvental and her husband, Michael Delvental; Maura (DuPlessie) Loveless and her husband, Jon Loveless; Justin Cambridge and his wife, Hallie Cambridge; Jonathan Cambridge and his wife, Sarah Cambridge; Joel Cambridge and his wife, Julie Cambridge; Jeffrey Cambridge and his wife, Amanda Cambridge; Dane Stebbings and his wife, Alison Stebbings; Addy (Stebbings) Coogan and her husband, Michael Coogan; Kelsey (Stebbings) Weston and her husband, Daniel Weston; Zachary Stebbings and his wife, Christie Stebbings; Paige (Warner) Rhines and her husband, Kiel Rhines; Ashley (Warner) Lawrence and her husband, Patrick Lawrence; Arthur Jacob Warner and his wife, Brittany Warner; David Warner; Hayley Stebbings; Taylor Stebbings and her fiancée, Mitchell Palazzi; Bram Stebbings; Mae Stebbings; and Essie Stebbings. He also leaves thirty treasured great-grandchildren and his ever-faithful companion "Oreo".A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Good News Bible Chapel, 235 West Street, Attleboro, MA.
