Antonio Gonsalves, Jr.

Antonio "Tony" Gonsalves, Jr., 88, of North Attleborough, MA, died on November 27, 2020 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA. He was born in Dartmouth, MA, on July 10, 1932. He was a son of the late Antonio Gonsalves, Sr. and the late Maria Jose (Abreu) Gonsalves.
Tony was the kind, loving, and devoted partner to his wife, Pauline (Tarantino) Smith Gonsalves for thirty-two years. His gentle touch extended to his five caring and attentive children: Robin Gonsalves, Tony Gonsalves, Darlene Correia and her husband, Scott; Fatima Rapuano and her husband, Sal; Michele Carey and her kind supportive husband, Chris; and to his four stepchildren: Peter Smith and his wife, Julie; Daniel Smith and his wife, Susan; Johanna Smith Griffin and her husband, Stephen; and Leigh Smith Fontes and her husband, Steven.
Tony was a strong and positive influence in the lives of eighteen supportive grandchildren.
Tony's childhood was spent mostly in New Bedford, eventually residing in North Attleborough, Foxborough, Dartmouth and New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
He served proudly and honorably in the United States Navy in the fifties and worked as a toolmaker for many New Bedford manufacturers before he joined Texas Instruments in 1979, retiring in 1993.
Tony's lifelong passion for baseball was a kind of sustenance in his life. He, at age 82, and his wife drove across country to San Francisco and back to see baseball games along the way at various ballparks.
Tony's presence will be missed but his influence will be felt by us forever. We are grateful.
All funeral services will be conducted privately.
