Anthony Tony J. Sousa, Jr., 52, of George Street, Attleboro, died on Friday evening, July 29, 2011 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Hospice Center in Providence, Rhode Island under the care of the Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island and surrounded by his loving and devoted family. Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on October 30, 1957, he was the son of Anthony J. Sousa, Sr. and Theodorica T. (Manson) Sousa both of Attleboro. He was raised and educated in the City of Attleboro where he was a 1975 graduate of Attleboro High School. He resided in the city for most of his life with the exception of several years when he lived in Seekonk. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served from June 6, 1975 until his honorable discharge as a Senior Airman on June 5, 1979. He then served with the United States Air Force Reserves. Mr. Sousa was employed as a mechanic at Colonial Tire in Plainville for more than 30 years prior to his retirement due to illness three years ago. He attended the Second Congregational Church, Attleboro. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hiking, four-wheeling, playing golf and numerous other outdoor activities. Mr. Sousa played ice hockey until recently and was an ardent softball player for many years. He was an ardent fan of the Boston Bruins, Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sousa leaves a son: Nicholas Anthony Sousa of Seekonk; two sisters: Joanne Sousa of Pawtucket, Rhode Island and her companion, Wayne Brown, of South Attleboro and Janelle Sousa-Farmer and her husband, John F. Farmer, of Kemp, Texas; two nephews: John John Farmer and James Farmer both of Kemp,, Texas and several aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and many dear friends including Michael Normand, James Ferreira and Mark Duphily all of Rhode Island. Committal services and burial with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 12:30 PM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, MacArthur Boulevard, Bourne. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home immediately following services. Childrens room available during visitation and the funeral. Following cemetery services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship, refreshments and remembrance at a location to be announced.
