Andrew Bruce Kelson, (80) of Franklin, Massachusetts, passed away on June 26, 2023, after a 6-year private battle with cancer.
Andy was born to Samuel and Dorothy Kelson, on April 10, 1943, in Bronx, NY. After graduating from Pace University in New York City, he went into harness horse racing and was an owner, trainer, and driver at Foxboro Raceway. After retiring from racing, he and his wife, Claire, opened up Franklin Lighting Center in Franklin, MA which they successfully ran for almost 30 years. It was eventually taken over by their long-time employee and friend, David Simpson.
Andy is survived by his daughter, Lainie Vande Woude, his grandson Luke and Lainie's partner, Anthony, and Luke's father, John. He is also survived by his dear friends and his second family Amy Karmara and her daughter, Mona. In addition, David and Laura Simpson and David's parents, June and David Simpson Sr. Andy were predeceased by his wife Claire, and brother Kenny.
Andy grew up a talented athlete and avid sports fan of the Yankees, Giants, and Knicks. He and his brother, Kenny, enjoyed heated debates over anything, especially sports and politics. He and his wife, Claire were benefactors to Sturdy Memorial Hospital for many years. Known for his direct communication style, those who knew him will miss his frank candor.
Andy's family hosted a small graveside funeral at Agudas Achim Cemetery on South Main Street, in Attleboro, MA on June 28th. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a tribute donation to Sturdy Memorial Foundation via this link:
