Almon Wilbur Cheney, Jr., 93, of Plainville, MA, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA. He was the loving husband of Olive C. (Ludwig-Morriseau) Cheney. Born on February 10, 1923 in Attleboro, MA, he was the son of the late Almon Wilbur Cheney, Sr. and the late Eleanor Janetta (Drummond) Cheney.Almon attended North Attleboro High School and lived most of his life in Plainville, MA. He honorably served our country in the United States Army from 1942 through 1945 as a Sergeant in the 10th Mountain Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon, the American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal. Almon then worked for many years as a Tool Maker for Martin-Copeland & Company in Providence, RI, before retiring in 1987. A man of great faith, dedication and intelligence, he remained proud of his commitment to our country and of his military service. Almon had many interests throughout his lifetime: he enjoyed cycling, was long an avid skier, enjoyed bird watching, and had been a member of the Rod and Gun Club. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and family.In addition to his wife, Olive, he is survived by his children: Philip Cheney and his wife, Anna Cheney, of Trophy Club, TX; and Clyde Cheney of Tulsa, OK. He was the grandfather of Matthew and Cara, Lindsay and Chad, and the great-grandfather of Harper and Mac. Almon was predeceased by his siblings: Edwin Cheney, Earl Cheney, and Jeannie Cheney. He also leaves his six stepchildren and their families who all live locally. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Memorial Service on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Central Congregational Church, 115 Commonwealth Avenue, Attleboro Falls, MA, with the Rev. Carole L.
