Albert Tavares

Albert Tavares, 83, of Taunton, passed away on January 18, 2014 at Longmeadow of Taunton Skilled Nursing Center in Taunton. He was the husband of Madeline A. Tavares to whom he was married on September 30, 1950. Born in Taunton, MA on November 22, 1930, he was the son of the late Abraham and Emma (Souza) Tavares. He graduated from URI with an Associate's Degree in Business Administration and was a Sgt. First Class in the National Guard from 1948 to 1958. Albert was an Assistant to the Administrator at the Greater Attleboro Taunton Regional Transit Authority (GATRA) for 7 years prior to his retirement in 1992. Mr. Tavares loved camping and fishing. He also enjoyed target pistol shooting and model railroading in his spare time. Over the years Albert belonged to several organizations, such as the Elks Lodge #150, where he had been secretary from 1984 to 1994; and he was Cape Cod Sportsman's Club's secretary in 1968. Mr. Tavares was also second vice-president at the Taunton Rifle and Pistol Club from 1975 to 1978. In addition to his wife of sixty-three years; Mr. Tavares is survived by four children: Deborah A. Dunham, George P. Tavares, Paul R. Tavares, Tracy N. Tavares; three grandchildren: Lynnelle Tavares, Matthew Tavares, and Jessica-Lynn Daly. He also leaves two great-grandchildren.
