Albert "Al" Raymond Belisle, 85, of Attleboro, MA passed away at his residence surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, March 17, 2024. He was the loving husband of Pauline V. (Horton) Belisle to whom he was married for 49 years.
Born in Springfield, MA on October 19, 1938, he was a son of the late George Belisle and the late Rita (Fregeau) Belisle. Raised and educated in Springfield, MA he later attended the University of Rhode Island for two years.
Al enlisted in the United States Army in October of 1958, at the age of 19. He served two years of active duty, two years in the Army Reserve and two years in Army Reserve Standby. He was stationed at the Zweibrucken Air Force base in Germany for a year before returning to the United States.
Mr. Belisle worked in computer technology throughout his career with his latest job working for Bank of America responsible for Information Security. He was a member of the American Bankers Association and served as President of the New England Chapter of the Information Security Association (ISSA). Al testified before Congress on the importance of banks having proprietary information as it relates to the internet and Information Security.
He attended Arnold Mills United Methodist Church in Cumberland, Rhode island and treasured the time spent with members of his church family and volunteering whenever possible.
Al was an active member of Habitat for Humanity having served on the board of directors for the Old Colony Habitat for many years. He participated in three blitz builds in Georgia with former President Jimmy Carter and also volunteered through his church to work on a number of Habitat for Humanity projects in Rhode Island.
He received his Master Gardener certification from the University of Rhode Island and loved working in his small orchard and volunteering for other local orchards.
Al was a member and long time member of the board of directors of Adopt-A-Family in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.
He and his loving wife, Pauline, loved to travel having experienced different parts of the United States and the world. He loved working with his hands and always volunteered to help family and friends with any projects that they may have. He enjoyed playing golf, fresh water fishing, being outdoors and he especially enjoyed playing the drums. Talking with people, even those he did not know, and making people laugh were two of his favorite pastimes. However, his family was the most important thing in his life.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters: Linda (Belisle) Lapierre and her husband, Russ Lapierre, of Harrisville RI and Wendy Belisle Washington and her husband, Hal Washington, of Virginia Beach VA; his grandchildren: Tyler Morin of Newburgh, ME and Alison Morin of Virginia Beach, VA; a great granddaughter: Audriana Morin of Box Elder, South Dakota; his siblings: Arthur Belisle and his wife, Lorraine, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina Kenneth Belisle and his wife, Linda, of Chantilly, Virginia; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law:Florence and Tom Holmes of Braintree, MA; Beverly and Dan Taggart of Lebanon, CT; Victor and Martina Horton of Colorado Springs, CO and James and Susan Horton of Paxton, MA.
Additionally, he is survived by twenty-one nieces and nephews, seventeen great nieces and nephews and three great-great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by siblings and their spouses: Richard Belisle and his wife, Theresa, whom had resided in Ludlow, MA and Helen (Belisle) Ridings and her husband, Robert, of Lake Worth, Florida.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend Visitation with Veteran's Honors on Monday, March 25, 2024, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.
All are welcome to attend a Funeral Service on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at 10:00 am in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.
Private burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Randolph, MA.
