Alan Lee Desilets, 69, of Hawk Avenue, North Attleboro, died unexpectedly at his residence on Wednesday, February 1, 2012. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary L. (Doucette) Desilets to whom he was married in Foxboro on April 20, 1968 and who entered into eternal rest on June 7, 2001. Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on February 22, 1942, he was a son of the late Armand and Margaret (Leary) Desilets. He was a lifelong resident of North Attleboro where he was a 1960 graduate of North Attleboro High School. Mr. Desilets proudly served with the United States Air Force from his enlistment on September 8, 1960 until his honorable discharge on February 11, 1964. He was employed by the former Foxboro Company, now Invensys, for ten years prior to being employed as a truck driver for U. S. F. Red Star in Cumberland, Rhode Island for more than twenty years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local #251. He was a communicant of St. Mark Roman Catholic Church in the Village of Attleboro Falls. Mr. Desilets was a devoted NASCAR fan, overall sports enthusiast and enjoyed fresh and salt water fishing. He enjoyed studying and learning about military history, in particular World War II history. His most treasured times were those spent creating lifelong memories with his family especially his young grandchildren. Mr. Desilets enjoyed time spent with his friends at the Falls A.C. in Attleboro Falls. He leaves a daughter: Jennifer E. Brink and her husband, Todd K. Brink, of New Berlin, Wisconsin; a son: Daniel J. Desilets and his wife, Heather L. (Smith) Desilets, of North Attleboro; three grandchildren: Holden T. Brink and Kelsey E. Brink both of New Berlin, Wisconsin and Hannah M. Desilets of North Attleboro; two sisters: Debra Groves and her husband, James Groves, of Attleboro and Marcia Cook and her husband, William Cook, of North Attleboro; a niece: Kaitlyn Groves of Attleboro; a sister-in-law: G. Joyce Doucette of North Attleboro; a brother-in-law: James E. Doucette of North Attleboro and several extended family members and dear friends. He was the brother-in-law of the late Joseph E. Doucette and his late wife, Eleanor Ellie Doucette. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with Veterans Honors on Monday, February 6, 2012 from 5:00 8:00 PM in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on the left) Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Those in need of a local ride to visitation may call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis transportation. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the funeral with Veterans Honors on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 8:45 AM from the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on the left) Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, 105 Stanley Street (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, turn right onto Stanley Street in mile and travel to end of Stanley Street), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. Thomas A. Frechette, Pastor, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum, Mount Hope Street, North Attleboro. Childrens room available during visitation and while the funeral cortege is being organized. Following cemetery services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. Desilets name may be made to Dyer-Lake Charitable Foundation, Inc., a registered 501 (c) (3) organization, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, North Attleboro, MA 02760 to benefit the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Hospice Facility in Providence, Rhode Island in honor and gratefulness for the care extended to his late wife, Mary, during her illness several years ago.
