Abraham P. White

Abraham P. White, 96, of Evergreen Woods, North Branford, Connecticut; formerly of Sheffield Road, Attleboro, died on Friday, April 20, 2012 at Evergreen Woods. He was the husband of the late Tilly K. (Kimel) White to whom he was married on July 2, 1937 and who died on July 28, 2007. Born in New Haven, Connecticut on October 27, 1915, he was the son of the late David and Rebecca (Podel) White. Raised and educated in New Haven, Mr. White was a 1933 graduate of the former New Haven Hillhouse High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the Cooper Union Institute of Technology in 1937. Mr. White resided in Connecticut until 1937 when he moved to Attleboro where he had resided for more than 70 years prior to returning to Connecticut. He was a longtime member of Congregation Agudas Achim, Attleboro where he was instrumental in building the synagogue. Mr. White was employed as the Manager of Industry Codes and Standards for the former Metals and Controls Company and remained with the company when it was acquired by Texas Instruments having served both organizations in Attleboro for almost 50 years prior to his retirement. A member of numerous professional organizations, Mr. White worked with the Underwriters Labororaties representing United States requirements and had served as Chairman of the International Committee of Underwriters Laboratories. He leaves his loving grand niece: Mindy Saffran Russo of Branford, Connecticut; his devoted caregiver: Christopher Asamoah of Wallingford, Connecticut as well as many very loving extended family members including generations of nieces and nephews, cousins, dear friends and the most caring staff at Evergreen Woods. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a funeral service on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Congregation Agudas Achim, 901 North Main Street - Route 152, Attleboro with Rabbi Elyse Wechterman, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at the Hebrew Cemetery in the Dodgeville section of Attleboro. Shiva will be observed at the Volterra Family Home, 297 Bank Street, Attleboro following graveside services on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 from 3:00 - 7:00 PM with a service on Wednesday evening at 6:15 PM.
