Joseph "Joe" Henry Gormley, 72, of North Attleboro and East Falmouth, MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at the Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wrentham, MA. He was the beloved husband of Claire B. (Chamberland) Gormley, to whom he was married on June 22, 1968 in Norwood, MA.Born on April 8, 1945 in Norwood, MA, he was the son of the late James Joseph Gormley and the late Helen Catherine (Schruender) Gormley.A graduate of Boston College High School, Class of 1963, he received his Bachelor's Degree and his Master's Degree from Boston State College, now UMass Boston. Joe had the privilege of working as a teacher at Franklin High School for thirty-five years, before retiring.A resident of North Attleboro for the past three years, and of Cape Cod since 1993, he previously lived in Plainville, MA for forty years, where he had been an active member of St. Martha's Church. He was most recently a member of St. Mark's Parish in Attleboro Falls.A gregarious, generous, and giving man, Joe was truly civic minded. He was a Past President of the Plainville United Way, Past Vice-Chairman of the United Way of Greater Attleboro-Taunton, a member of the Plainville Jaycees, the Plainville Athletic League, and very involved with the Plainville electorate system and numerous town boards. He was instrumental in beginning both community scholarship and emergency relief funds. Joe loved playing golf, spending time on the beaches of Cape Cod, especially Bristol Beach in Falmouth, reading, painting water colors, being outdoors, rooting for his Red Sox and Patriots, and could often be found fixing things around his home and for his neighbors. He delighted in being a part of his own radio show, "The Joe and Joe Show" on WDIS in Norfolk in the 90's. More than anything, though, Joe loved simply being with his family and his cherished grandchildren.In addition to his wife, Claire, he is survived by his loved children: Nanci E. (Gormley) Boynton and her husband, Kevin M. Boynton, of North Attleboro, MA; and Michael J. Gormley and his wife, Kristen M. (Mador) Gormley, of Charlton, MA. He was the adoring grandfather of Ryan M. Boynton, Kyle J. Boynton, Rachel K. Gormley, and Erin E. Gormley. Joe was the dear brother of James F. Gormley and his wife, Judith Gormley, of Norwood, MA, and Helen C. Wyche and her husband, Byron Wyche, of Norwood, MA. He leaves several nieces and nephews and many, many dear friends. Friends and family are cordially invited to honor and remember Joe by gathering for a Visitation on Monday, April 9, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.
